This is a project where I’m rendering modern and contemporary texts in the style of illuminated manuscripts. I’m writing in historical scripts like fraktur, blackletter, and uncial, using a mix of traditional and nontraditional materials (parchment, sumi ink, and gouache, but also Jelly Rolls), and blending traditional and contemporary references in the miniatures. I’m also writing a Substack about the experience of investing in a creative project and contemplating what it would take to turn it into a real “side hustle.”
